What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

MMA Mixed Martial Arts

So what exactly is MMA? It’s an abbreviation for Mixed martial arts and it has become very popular as a sport and a workout routine. To train like some of the best, you actually wouldn’t need to know any of their names.

Anyone can take a class. However, most people who try in MMA feel that it is more of a lifestyle than a fitness plan you would drop in and out of. The discipline helps influence many things like how you workout, eat, sleep, rest, and even think.

People who compete or have competed in the amateur or professional circuits are usually in charge of the classes. The aerobic workout is unrivaled, and the sessions fly by. After all, it’s difficult to become bored when you’re learning to blend punches, strikes, grappling, and takedowns from a variety of disciplines, such as Karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Kickboxing.

Mixed martial arts can be a confused as a solo discipline. As the name implies, it is a mix of martial arts. The most commonly practiced mix is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Muay Thai or Wrestling with Western Boxing. The idea is having both a grappling practice and a striking practice to consider a practitioner as a mixed martial artist.

In some schools or gyms, there is a class that combines the two together. In other places, it is taught separately. Here at Impact, we have separate programs to allow students to focus on one at a time. We believe it eases the amount to learn and produces great results.
